Camping

Priest River is located at the confluence of the Priest and Pend Oreille Rivers. Pictured is the Pend Oreille.

Priest River’s location at the juncture of the Pend Oreille and Priest rivers in the heart of the Selkirks lends itself to an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities. Within easy reach are RV parks and campgrounds, recreational rentals, skiing, golfing, fishing, boating, hunting and many other attractions and activities. World-class fishing can be had at many area lakes, both large and small. Hikers enjoy taking the trail up Gisborne Mountain for views from the lookout at the Priest River Experimental Forest and possible wildlife spotting. Huckleberry and mushroom pickers can have their choice of bounty depending on the season. The Priest Lake area north of town is renowned for its hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails in the Selkirk Mountains, as well as hiking, mountain biking and cross-country ski trails.

Swimming
With so much water surrounding it, Priest River naturally has its own swimming area, the "Mudhole," and more swimming spots nearby. The Mudhole, which is at the town’s east entrance where the Priest River enters the Pend Oreille, also has an RV and tent campground, boat launch and fishing area. Albeni Cove Recreation Area is on the south side of the river just downstream from Priest River, while Riley Creek is on the north side of the river upstream at Laclede. Both of those also have campsites and boat launches.

Boating and Floating

Priest River has 44 miles of shoreline between Priest Lake and the town of Priest River perfect for canoeing, rafting and fishing with its rapids and slow-moving stretches. The Pend Oreille River has 38 miles of boatable shoreline from Albeni Falls Dams to Sandpoint and Lake Pend Oreille.

Parks

Priest River has two other parks, West Bonner and City Park, with picnic tables and restrooms. West Bonner includes a free public boat launch, and the City Park contains a children’s area, tennis courts and basketball
courts.
Many miles of beautiful scenery can be enjoyed while riding on bike trails all over in our area.

The Backcountry Horsemen, a local group, maintain a trail north of Priest River called PeeWee Trail. It is just one of the great horseback rides in the area.
